Flight Training in 2026: Make Your Resolution A Reality
Last year, we received a LOT of messages from aviation enthusiasts who want to turn their love for flying into action.
But for so many of these potential pilots, and plenty more who haven’t yet reached out, it’s hard to take the first step. The path feels daunting; there are plenty of questions, financial restraints, time commitments, confusion, fear…the list goes on.
We’re here to say… It’s 2026. It's time to make those dreams happen. You’re not going to have all the answers. Thankfully, we do, and we’re here to help.
I want to be a pilot. How do I start?
Step one is an in-person Rogue Orientation. Not only will we walk you through the necessary requirements to start your training and earn your license, we will give you a tour of our office, classrooms, and the aircraft in our hangar. You will learn about things like: medical requirements, building a training schedule that works for you, license requirements (like hour minimums and exams), and more.
How long will it take to earn my private pilot’s license?
While the Federal Aviation Administration requires a minimum of 40 hours of flight time, they also require an endorsement from your CFI before you can take your standards tests. So, you may need closer to 50-70 hours before you're ready.
How long you take to build your hours all depends on your schedule availability, dedication to studying, and financial capabilities. On average, students complete their private pilot training between 6-12 months.
I’m concerned about paying for training. What are my options?
Flight training isn’t cheap. However, it IS manageable when you have a flight school that works with you to remove barriers and maintain full transparency. (No surprise fees over here!)
We’re proud to offer discounted flight training rates for qualified, enrolled students AND discounted aircraft rental rates for qualified renters. Interested in payment plans and loans? Flight training financing may be available through recommended organizations. We’re happy to share more details with you to begin the application process.
How many students will I train alongside? How large are classes?
While you’ll meet plenty of other students and pilots on your training journey, all classes are one-on-one with an instructor! You shape your lessons around your schedule!
What will my career options look like?
You’d be surprised how many opportunities there are for pilots. You’re probably already familiar with some, like fire fighting, EMS, sheriff’s department, and highway patrol. But there’s also… the FBI and CIA, agricultural work (including seeding and spraying), charters and tours, powerline and pipeline control, aerial photography and cinematography, and so much more. You can even become an instructor yourself.
I’m under 17. Can I start training now?
Absolutely! While you won’t be able to get your license before you turn 17, you can absolutely start training and building your hours.
Got more questions and want to check out flying without the long-term commitment? Check out the Rogue Aviation Pilot Experience: hands-on, introductory flying with an instructor over incredible California icons (plus tons of other surprises in store).
We hope to see you this year. Let’s make that resolution finally happen!
