So, you’re considering switching gears to a new career…

You want to be a pilot! And that is AWESOME.

But you’ve never flown before.

What can you do to start your journey in the right direction, before you even commit to anything?

We have some tips…

First, fly for fun! Take a Discovery Flight, tour, or just fly with a pilot friend, and make sure you like the sensation of flight. More than anything, you want to enjoy your potential career change.

Okay, so you know for sure you like to fly. Now what? Research the license requirements: the tests, the lessons, the textbooks, and the finances. One of our CFIs will also discuss the medical requirements with you too.

Understand how you will maintain your lessons. Just as it is a financial commitment, it’s also a time commitment! The minimum number of hours required of a license may not be your actual hours. You might need more! Plus, you’ll want your flight training to walk hand in hand with the rest of your busy schedule. You’ll need time to study and attend in-flight and ground training.

Check out some of the career options. If you definitely want to be a professional pilot, it doesn’t hurt to have an idea of what’s waiting for you out there! Check out this list of helicopter jobs and ask a CFI how you can reach that goal.

Make some pilot friends! Talk to students, active pilots and CFIs. Ask for tips, why they love to fly, etc. Study buddies and mentors will make this flight journey even more fun!
